SEEKING PREMED COLLEGE GRADUATE:


Primary Care Office Internship for Pre-Med Students: 12 month Position starting June 2025 in La Grange, IL. This is a great opportunity for college graduates who are seeking clinical experience while applying to medical school.


ABOUT CARA DIRECT CARE:

Cara Direct Care is the first Direct Primary Care clinic in Chicago’s western suburbs, providing family medicine to the area, in an affordable membership medicine model. We are interested in educating those interested in a career in the field of medicine and are seeking a four-year college graduate who is looking for a gap year experience before attending medical school. 


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • To apply, you MUST have a 4-year Bachelor's degree. 

  • We will ONLY consider candidates who have the intention of attending medical school. 

  • Pre-PA or Pre-NP school applicants will NOT be considered.  

  • No previous experience in a medical clinic setting is required.

  • Full training will be provided.


LOCATION: La Grange, IL

SETTING: Outpatient Family Medicine Clinic

PAID: Yes (hourly rate)

HOURS: 15-20 hours/week

DURATION: 12-24 months

SKILL SET REQUIRED:

  • Detail-oriented 

  • Ability to learn quickly and operate independently. 

  • Excellent time management skills 

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Strong organizational and planning skills.

  • Professionalism


ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:

  • Answer phone calls and emails

  • Organize and schedule patient appointments. 

  • Greet and prepare patients for physician

  • Record intake information

  • Prepare exam room for patient examination

  • Update medical records

  • Produce and distribute correspondence memos, letters, faxes and forms.

  • Respond to patient phone notes, provide information to patients as per set protocols, and liaise between patients and physician.

  • Prepare prescriptions as trained and directed by supervisor

  • Maintain & clean exam rooms and restock room inventory.

  • Prepare and sterilize medical instruments. 

  • Clean and disinfect medical equipment.

  • Should be proficient in Google Workspace. 

  • Should demonstrate initiative in improving electronic office workflow efficiency 

PATIENT CARE DUTIES:

  • Assist physician with certain in-office medical procedures

  • May perform patient care duties (remove wound dressing, sutures, or staples) as trained and directed by physician.

  • Collection, processing and documentation of specimens according to proper procedures as trained and directed by physician and supervisor.

  • Vaccine administration and venepuncture as trained and directed by physician.

  • Medication inventory and orders as trained and directed by supervisor.
